Ways to Give

Volunteer

As the premier philanthropic entity advancing the specialty of periodontics and dental implant surgery through advocacy, research, and education, the AAP Foundation relies on the help of volunteers. Please contact the Foundation to indicate your interest in any of the following opportunities.

Practice, Academic, and Student Ambassadors

All members of the periodontal community have roles to play in helping to promote the AAP Foundation’s programs, encourage colleagues to contribute, and raise awareness of periodontal disease, the importance of treating it, and the dedicated specialists who can help.

Selection Committees

Each AAP Foundation program, from fellowships and scholarships to research awards and grants, has a unique selection committee appointed by the Foundation president. Committee members are appointed to three-year terms, renewable for up to a second term, and members may only serve on one committee at a time. Founding major donors often consult with the President on appointments to the selection committees for the programs they have created and may serve on the committees themselves, although not as chair. Contact the Foundation to indicate your interest in serving on a selection committee.

Board of Directors

The AAP Foundation is governed by an independent Board of Directors. Officers and directors are elected by the Board. Three officers of the American Academy of Periodontology Board of Trustees and one from the American Board of Periodontology Board of Directors are also voting ex-officio members of the Foundation board, supported by the CEO of the AAP and Executive Director of the ABP in non-voting capacities. Contact the Foundation to indicate your interest in serving on the Board of Directors.

Advocacy

The Levi-Richman Integration Initiative includes many programs that rely on volunteers. Its overall Advisory Committee also serves as the selection committee for the Levi-Richman Multidisciplinary Oral-Systemic Research Grants, while separate committees select the Patty and Paul Levi Research Awards and Richman Family Foundation Perio-Ortho Interface Grants.

Volunteer Student, Practice, and Academic Ambassadors organize the Initiative’s PerioDash teams, while others lend their expertise as speakers on webinars, liaisons to regional perio societies, and by conducting in-person outreach at medical conferences. Contact the Foundation to indicate your interest in getting involved with the Initiative.
